2011 was for me was a great year in film, don't get me wrong it also had more stinkers than the cast of "I'm A Celebrity" after 3 weeks in the jungle. But the good definitely outweighed the bad.
Now many of you are going to read this list and agree but I'm sure some will completely disagree but that's whats so great about movies. Although if you do disagree: Your Wrong. So here goes, my ten best films of the last 12 months...
10) Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
After the shambles that was The Planet Of The Apes remake with Mark Walberg back in 2001, finally an Apes film that does everything it should. Worth mentioning Andy (Gollum) Serkis who used motion capture to perform as the apes. It's a great blockbuster with a great script and excellent CGI.
9) Kill List
Not for the faint hearted. It's brilliant but brutal. The title says it all really.
8) Bridesmaids
Yep I've put a chick flick at no 8. It's not your standard rom com. It's rude, crude and one of the funniest films science The Hangover. In fact it's The Hangover with lady's. Although I use the word Lady's loosely.
7) Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in the biggest blockbuster of the year, After its accused of bombing the Kremlin the IMF is shut down leaving Hunt to go on an Impossible Mission to put things right. With amazing action and has one of the best stunts ever put on film, well put on IMAX.
6) X-Men First Class
Not the biggest in terms of box office takings but as a massive X fan, this is a fantastic prequel starring Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy who play out the meeting of Xavier and Magneto.
5) Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallow Part 2
After Hallows Part 1 I was concerned the franchise had got a bit boring, why walk for 3 hours when you can magic yourself to where you want to go, or at least use your broomstick. But this end to the 10 year and 8 movies saga is just brilliant. Also a film that put 3D to great use.
4) Crazy Stupid Love
The first of two Ryan Gosling films in my chart, this one is about a middle aged man (Steve Carell) who's depressed divorced life is transformed when he meets a guy who teaches him how to pick up girls. It's mainstream but indie, it's moving and hilarious.
3) Hugo
Martin Scorsese's first family film is a visually beautiful story of a boy who lives in a French train station in the 1930s who discovers a mystery left by his late father.
I realize that I'm not really selling it but I promise you if you like cinema you'll love Hugo.
2) Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy
Set during the cold war, this espionage drama follows George Smiley as tries to uncover a soviet spy within MI6. It's a who's who if incredible British actors.
1) Drive.
Ryan Gosling again but this time in a tougher, grittier role of a getaway driver and movie
stuntman who discovers he's a wanted man after a heist goes wrong. Another movie that's not to everyone's taste due to its violence but it's actually used to great credit to the film. Although I still looked away a few times.
So they were my favorites, but a mention to a few other films that may have made your list.
The Inbetweeners movie took an incredible £45 million here in the UK, the migraine inducing Transformers Dark Of The Moon took £29 million on our shores. Pirates 4 broke into the top ten biggest films of all time and The Hangover Part 2 or as I like to call it "Part 1 Revisited" became the biggest comedy of all time.
Hope you've enjoyed the films of 2011 and get ready for some for more big screen blogs in 2012.
