Sherlock creator confirms third series

Sherlock’s creator has confirmed the hit BBC drama will be back for a third series.

Last night’s second season ended with The Reichenbach Fall and thousands of viewers got the show trending on Twitter, thrilled with the episode. The recent three specials were a huge hit for the BBC despite some controversy regarding a nude scene in the first of the three episodes.

Following last nihgt’s episode, Stephen Moffatt – the show’s head writer tweeted “Yes of course there's going to be a third series - it was commissioned at the same time as the second. Gotcha!”

Mark Gatiss, who co-writes the show tweeted a similar statement, saying “Gotcha! And of course there'll be a third series! It was commissioned at the same time as series two!!’

There had been some doubt about Sherlock’s future with Benedict Cumberbatch landing a role in Star Trek 2 and Martin Freeman being tied into promo work for The Hobbit.
